What is an Altar + Why is it Sacred?
An altar is simply a sacred space with a collection of items that hold significance to you or a group of people. They are often created around a theme or intention. They can vary in size from a couple of items on a window sill to a large decorative display.
Altars are sacred devotional spaces that purify and welcome love + light energy to a room, It is a space that you can enter deep reflection and meditation and a great place to conduct meaningful rituals.
Creating an altar is a spiritual activity of intention as much as it is a physical endeavor. Altars can be communal, public or absolutely personal and private, made only for you.
When created ceremoniously and in ritual your altar is a place of sanctuary, prayer, meditation and ritual. It is a place to hold your prayers and intentions, as well as to focus your love and connection to Spirit.
I have been building altars for over 3 years now, for myself, women gatherings, red tent, communal spaces, and for ecstatic dance community spaces.
